Why Choose Our Compressor?

Most tools make your GIFs look blurry or "pixelated." We fixed that.

Keep the Quality

We remove hidden data that isn't needed, keeping the animation sharp.

Fast & Free

No waiting in queues. Everything happens right in your browser.

Private & Safe

We don't store your images. Your files are deleted automatically as soon as you finish.

Transparency

Unlike other tools, we keep your transparent backgrounds clean—no weird white edges.

How GIF Compression Actually Works

A GIF file is really just a sequence of still frames stuffed into one container, along with a color palette that tells your browser which colors to use for each pixel. Most of the wasted space in a large GIF comes from two places: too many frames doing almost the same thing, and a color palette that is bigger than the animation actually needs.

When you choose Frame Reduction, the tool looks for frames that barely differ from the one before them and drops the ones that are not adding real motion. Your eye usually cannot tell the difference between 24 frames and 16 frames of the same movement, but the file size drop can be significant. Color Palette reduction works on a similar idea, cutting down the number of distinct colors stored in the file. A photo style GIF might use thousands of colors, but a simple animation or meme often looks identical with a fraction of that.

Lossless mode skips both of those tricks and instead strips out redundant metadata and optimizes how the frames are encoded, which is why it produces a smaller saving but never touches the actual picture. If you are trying to hit an exact number, like Discord's 256KB sticker limit or Steam's 8MB workshop cap, Target Size mode runs the compression repeatedly behind the scenes until it lands under your number, balancing frame and color reduction automatically so you do not have to guess at settings.

If you are starting from a video instead of a GIF, our GIF to MP4 converter works the other direction and can help if you need a smaller format than GIF altogether for something like a website background. And if your GIF came from somewhere else and you have not downloaded it yet, the GIF downloader handles that first step.

Perfect for Every App

We have built-in settings for the places you use GIFs most:

Discord

Social Media

Optimized for Twitter (X), Instagram, and Reddit so they load instantly.

Websites

Improve your site's speed and Google Core Web Vitals by using smaller files.

Steam

Get your artwork under the 8MB limit without losing the cool details.

Smart Control Options

If you want more control, try these settings:

Frame Reduction

Removes extra frames to cut the size in half.

Color Palette

Reduces the number of colors for a tiny file size.

Lossless Mode

Shrinks the file as much as possible without touching a single pixel.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does this tool compress GIFs?

It reduces file size in two main ways: by trimming near-duplicate frames and by shrinking the color palette the animation relies on. You can let Target Size mode handle both automatically, or use Lossless / Frame Reduction / Color Palette settings yourself when you want more control.

Will compressing my GIF affect its quality?

Lossless mode does not change image quality at all — it only removes unnecessary file data. Frame reduction and color palette adjustments can affect quality slightly, but the tool is built to keep changes subtle so most animations still look smooth and sharp at normal viewing size.

What is the maximum file size I can upload?

The compressor is built for typical GIF sizes used on social media, websites, Discord, and chat apps. If you hit issues with an unusually large file, try two passes: first Frame Reduction, then Lossless on the result. That usually brings oversized animations down without needing a desktop app.

Is this tool free to use?

Yes. The GIF compressor is completely free — no paid tier, no daily limit, and no watermark on your compressed files. Upload, compress, and download as many times as you need.

Do I need to create an account?

No account, email, or signup is required. Open the page, upload your GIF(s), choose your settings, compress, and download in the same session.

Are my uploaded GIFs secure?

Yes. Compression runs in your browser session and files are not stored on our servers after you finish. We do not keep a long-term copy of your uploads, so your GIFs stay private.
